Last February, the Reynolds Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, was destroyed by fire, leaving behind years of history, including veterans’ memorabilia and items.
The VFW is a non-profit organization that provides free support and services to veterans and military families. It is an integral part of the community, giving back to local schools and people in need. “It was really upsetting to see the devastation, but we’ll be back. It’ll be better than ever,” said Post Commander John Whitman.
Just days after the fire, volunteers got to work transforming the pavilion across the road into its temporary base of operations. Several volunteers built a small office space and a larger bar area. Businesses and organizations from across the area also gave back to the non-profit by donating supplies, time, and money.
With its origins in Mercer, Reznor also wanted to help this local institution in its time of need. Prior to the fire, Reznor equipment had been operating in the building for decades. To keep the pavilion and its occupants comfortable, Reznor donated two new UDXC gas-fired unit heaters. In addition, Reznor will donate three new radiant tube heaters to warm the outdoor patio area in the colder months.

“It’s overwhelming coordinating the amount of help, donations, and volunteers. It’s been a huge group effort,” said Quartermaster John Chapman. “This club is not the building, it’s our members. We’ll make it stronger. We’re going to keep going.”
The Reynolds VFW is working with insurance to get the building demolished and will resume normal operation hours in the pavilion. The anticipated completion date of the new facility is 2026.
